Glaisher (spr. glehsch'r), James, Physiker und Meteorolog, geb. 7. April 1809 in London, gest. 7. Febr. 1903 in Croydon bei London, 1840-74 Leiter der magnetischen und meteorolog. Abteilung am königl. Observatorium in Greenwich, verdient bes. durch zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Luftballonfahrten (1862-69); schrieb: »Travels in the air« (neue Aufl. 1880) u.a.
